"I knew I was saved by grace. I just didn't believe I could rest in it. This book is what I wish someone had told me sooner: rest isn't something you earn. It's something you receive."

"How foolish can you be? After
starting your new lives in the Spirit,
why are you now trying to become
perfect by your own human effort?"

— Galatians 3:3 (NLT)

About the Author

You're probably here because you want to know a little more about me.

My name is Danielle Nicole Niyotwagira. I'm a wife, mom to two girls, and a special education teacher.

For most of my life, I was also something else: a self-righteous saint, convinced my standing with God depended on how well I performed.

I knew I was saved by grace, but I lived like I still had to prove I deserved it. Underneath it, I was measuring, myself against everyone else, and everyone else against me.

I thought if I could just get it right enough, be disciplined enough, understand enough, God would be a little more pleased with me.

It took years, through motherhood, ministry, and every effort to look put-together, before that belief finally broke.

The Self-Righteous Saint is the story of how it broke, and how patient, kind, and merciful God was with me through every year I misunderstood His grace.

If you're still striving, still measuring, still trying to earn what's already yours, this book was written for you.
